Lightweight & High Resistance Foam Core Panels
Aluminum face sheets over foam cores. Cores can be expanded polystyrene or polyurethane foams. Foams come in various densities. For some applications a substrate, such as hardboard, is used between the aluminum face and the core. This allows the use of a lighter density foam while increasing resistance to dents. The resulting five-ply panel is generally used where impact is likely to occur. The thickness tolerance of foam core panels is not as precisely controllable as with honeycomb panels.
